International Baccalaureate Organization
The SIS Swiss International Schools in Brazil are part of a small group of schools that apply the International Baccalaureate Organization programmes from kindergarten to college, offering an IB continuum education.
The IB, founded in Switzerland in 1968, is a globally operating international organisation that aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IB works with schools and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. The programmes encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners and are aligned with the SIS mission and core values. IB-accredited schools undergo a meticulous evaluation process.
IB Primary Years Programme
The PYP is for children from preschool to Year 5. It offers an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding and challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning. The six transdisciplinary themes of global significance that guide the units of inquiry provide authentic and real-life contexts for students to explore and engage with rich dialogues and ongoing collaboration, allowing them to build an understanding of themselves, their wider community and the world.
IB Middle Years Programme
The MYP is the programme provided for Year 6 to Year 10. With an interdisciplinary approach, its framework makes connections between disciplines and encourages students to do the same between their studies and the real world. MYP projects inspire students to reflect on their learning and the outcomes of their work – key skills that prepare them for success in further study, the workplace and the community. The MYP students are well-prepared to begin the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
IB Diploma Programme
The IB DP is an academically challenging graduation programme that is respected and recognised by leading universities across the globe. The diploma can be used during the admission process for several universities in Brazil and worldwide. The programme aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills. Through the Diploma Programme core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake projects that involve community service. The DP serves as a preparation for academic life while providing a challenging, internationally focused, broad, and balanced educational experience for students of Years 11 and 12.

SIS Swiss International School
SIS Swiss International School is a group of private day schools in Brazil, Germany and Switzerland offering bilingual education from kindergarten through to college. The SIS programme is centred on consistent bilingual classroom instruction and peer experience in the national language and English (or German or French at ESB Rio de Janeiro), culminating in a national or international university entrance qualification.
