Do you know the SIS Cup? An exciting annual event where students from SIS schools around the world come together for two intense days of sporting competition! The students always return with valuable lessons and experiences they will carry with them for life. In the following article, our athletes from the 2024 edition share highlights from their time at the competition!
Sport, by nature, offers numerous possibilities for personal and collective growth. Besides promoting health and well-being, it proves to be a powerful educator in terms of values such as respect, integrity, and cooperation. The SIS Cup is no different. During the SIS Cup, each SIS school is represented by a delegation of Year 6 students who travel to one of our locations, accompanied by their coaches. This year, the competition took place in SIS Zürich, Switzerland. We invited three of the athletes who were part of the SIS Brazil schools’ delegations to share their experiences and reflect on some memorable moments during the competition days.
Valentina M. from ESB Rio de Janeiro
Going to Switzerland was the best experience of my entire life, I met new people and had some new adventures. During the SIS Cup, I met very funny people of SIS Brasília and SIS Escola Nova. On the first day of the competition, I was very excited and nervous, IT WAS THE FIRST DAY! We cheered for Escola Nova, Brasília, Männedorf, Zürich, for all of them! It was very cool to talk with people of other schools in English. They taught me some words in German, and I taught them some words in Portuguese. I also showed them Brazilian TikTok dances! This year had a brand new trophy, it was called: FAIR PLAY. To win this trophy, the team must be solidary and honest with the competitors. For example, Duda, while playing floorball, stepped into an area that was not allowed. She told the staff what happened and the bawent to the other team. On this trip, I learned about taking care of myself and controlling my emotions, and had fun with my teammates and roommates and made incredible friends. I am also thankful for my teacher Rafael that supported and helped me all the time.
Helena S. from SIS Brasília
I was very responsible from preparation to return. We trained four times a week for three months, including Saturdays, and we learned to be a team with our coaches. During the competition, we followed their lead and we organised our things to ensure everything was ready for the next day. I feel this helped me become more independent in my life. We collaborated and supported each other, made new friends and gave our best. We were happy to be in 10th place, the best result the school has ever had.
