Our preschool offers a stimulating and supportive learning environment for children aged three to six years. We nurture the innate fascination of children with the world to encourage learning.
Escola Nova by SIS
Our curriculum is based on active learning methodologies, such as inquiry- and project-based approaches that explore different fields of experience such as nature, the body, language and mathematics, among others, all while strengthening students' social and emotional skills.
Children explore their immediate environment and learn how to find their place in a group, and in this way start developing an age-appropriate level of independence. Furthermore, they take part in activities and projects with other classes and celebrate festivals and traditions from our community.
We support different families' necessities by offering our preschool education with different possibilities according to their needs: in shifts – morning or afternoon – or in a bilingual day school concept (starting in 2024). The children are accompanied by teachers and assistants throughout the school day.
In our bilingual preschool, inquiries and projects will be carried out in Portuguese and English, which will guarantee students the confidence to overcome challenges in both languages. The curriculum is organised such that students will spend 50 % of the time immersed in Portuguese and 50 % in English. Gradually, they will be able to use the languages in a natural and authentic way in their relation to the world, transforming their surroundings into a bilingual environment.
Bilingual Education at Escola Nova by SIS
At Escola Nova by SIS, children can learn both Portuguese as well as English through immersion – even if they are not native speakers of either language.
SIS applies the "One person, one language" principle. Teachers use the same language not only for teaching in the classroom but also in the school yard.
The immersion method exposes students to the rational, emotional, and cultural dimensions of the language. This is the foundation for developing complete fluency.
